Youth Summer Sunday School The goal of our Youth Summer Sunday School is to bring parts of the Bible to life through art culminating in a Rally Day Art Show. We hope all our youth will participate. We will need help from teenagers and adults. Our youth will be working with clay, watercolor, finger paint, collage, pastels, colored pencils, and poetry. Projects will be ongoing until the artist decides it is completed. Please bring your child to the class each Sunday by 10:10 am. We would like to have adults in the classroom each Sunday to help with each of the art areas. Please contact Laura Angelo, 281.265.5392, langelo@windstream.net; Sherry Schreck, 281.835.0250, schrecks4@hotmail.com; Elise McCutchen, 281.438.1280, emccutchen@isdhouston.com, or Terry Waddell, 713.774.9619, twaddell@epiphany-hou.org and let them know which dates, through August 9, that you can be in the classroom. Nursery Renovation Thanks to all who came out and helped get the nursery renovation kicked off! Cabinets and doors have been stripped. The next step will be to sand the stripped cabinets and then we'll be ready to paint. Tsuru (the Japanese word for crane) ![]() There is an ancient Origami legend in Japan that says if you fold 1000 paper cranes (called a Senbazuru) your wish will be granted. The legend gained world attention through a young girl, Sadako Sasaki, who was two years old when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Ten years later, she was dying from leukemia and started folding paper cranes in the hope that if she completed 1000 of them, she would be cured. She died with only two-thirds of the cranes completed. In tribute, her classmates folded the rest, and the Children's Monument was raised in her memorgy at the Peace Park. Today, the legend of her courage and sustaining spirit survives, and paper cranes folded by children the world over arrive by the truckload to surround her statue, and the Senbazuru has come to symbolize a beautiful wish from someone who cares about you. When my wife's brother became ill with cancer, her Japanese friends told her of the legend and helped fold 1000 cranes for him. It made a wonderful and inspiring "get well" card. Seeing the flying cranes in his hospital room, he was reminded of the thoughts, love and prayers of his family and friends from around the world. By the grace of God he won his battle and is now in remission. We pray that the thoughts and prayers inscribed on the cranes in the sanctuary may each be answered by God in his loving way. — Dave Mathison Tuesday Bible Class The Tuesday Bible Class is open to all and continues year round. It is taught by The Reverend James T. Tucker or The Reverend James M. L. Grace. Start it at any time. There is no beginning and there is no ending so you will be right where you are supposed to be. They meet at 12:30 except for the first Tuesday of the month when they begin at 12 noon with a pot luck lunch. Nursery Parents: When you check your child into the nursery please do sign in and if you have not met the babysitters Debby Murland and Sherlynn Brown, please introduce yourself. If there is anything special they should know about your child, (didn't sleep well, is taking a medication, etc. etc.) please let them know as this will help them better care for your child. Every Child a Book Project The goal of this project is to give every child who comes to ECHOS a book to take home to encourage literacy. Donations will be gratefully accepted any time for this ongoing project. The Children Activity Bags The Children Activity Bags are found in a basket in the narthex. The bags and their contents are given in loving memory of Mary Ricketts. The materials are to be enjoyed by children during the worship service. Parents are asked to assist their child/children in relocating and repacking all materials to the bag. The bag is then to be returned to the basket in the narthex so it can be used by a family at the next service. Parental cooperation and assistance will be greatly appreciated. |
